Saloni Rajawat on Instagram: "Sanatan never called periods impure. In fact, in many parts of India, periods are celebrated and honoured. 🌸 In Assam, at the Kamakhya Temple, the goddess is believed to menstruate once a year during the Ambubachi Mela — and thousands of devotees gather to celebrate this divine Shakti. 🌸 In Odisha, the festival of Raja Parba marks menstruation as a sign of fertility and renewal of the earth itself. 🌸 In parts of South India, young girls at their menarche are celebrated, worshipped, and gifted as they are seen as the living form of Devi. Periods were always seen as a time of power, fertility, and divine energy — not impurity. The idea of “not touching idols, not doing pooja, or staying away from temples” is a much later distortion. If Devi Maa herself is worshipped during her menstruation, why do we stop the ghar ki devi — the women of our homes — from worshipping? If we can honour young girls as living goddesses during festivals, why can’t we honour women in their periods every day? It is time to change the notion. Periods are not dirty. Periods are Shakti. And when a woman bleeds, she is closest to her creative power — the very force that brings life into the world.
